We are almost half-way through 2018 and it’s time to re-evaluate important factors of your life, for me it’s my health. You might remember my post from January; ‘This Year I am Making My Health a Priority‘? If not, do check it out.
I had my yearly health check-up with a blood test and all right after Christmas and got diagnosed with high cholesterol, low blood-count and being pre-diabetic. This, of course, came as a big shock and a sign that it was time to make some massive changes.
It was time to get in charge of my health! Since Summer 2008 until 2017, I had allowed my overall wellness to get out of control. Being a Single Mum, running my own business, running a household and more had made me neglect my own wellness.
It’s only since mid-2017 I started focusing on my health and wellbeing – even this has been a rollercoaster of a journey; sometimes my body feels more sound than my mind. Other days, my spirits are lifted because I’ve eaten two pieces of cake without guilt, but now my stomach hurts. And oftentimes, I’ve had the best workout of my week, but mentally, I’m still feeling down.
I had a follow-up blood test about a month ago and the results were pretty much the same – so it’s back to do drawing board for me. As a result of this; I am now doing a Nutrition & Health – Level 2 course to learn more and apply it in my life.
It’s been important for me to recognise that health is not a concrete state. It’s a fluid condition fluctuating daily with our own personal choices. Some days we feel healthier than others.
“This is a fact I need to constantly remind myself, and I feel the best way to do this is to keep writing about it.”
My goal is to spend time, from here on out, re-evaluating my health consistently, because I value myself enough to care about my physical and mental well-being at all times.
My top 5 tips on how to get back on track with your precious health:
- Get yourself back to Basics and Plan, Prepare & Schedule
- Do some form of exercise every day; Yoga, running, gym, long walks etc. Whatever works for you – go for it!
- Cook and eat healthy and nutritious meals. Tune in to your body! For me; I function best when I eat every 3 hours.
- Practice Self-Love & Self-Care daily
- Remind yourself of how you feel when you are off track
