October is FINALLY here and it’s time to Celebrate! You see, October is my month and it’s my 41st birthday 18 days from now!
Since my 40th, I promised myself to take myself to my beloved Paris for my birthdays, and this year is no different, however, I will not be going on my birthday itself, but I’ve booked myself on a solo trip to Paris from the 29th-31st October and I honestly can’t wait!
Like they say; Paris is always a good idea and it’s true, it’s never the wrong time to go. Every season is different and every month is special. Autumn is a time to enjoy warm sunny days and wrap up for chilly nights to drink hot chocolate on a terrace. My love and passion for Paris are growing each and every day, so this month I am inspired to start Living my French Inspired Life – starting with:
Practising pleasure rituals
Feeling good is as important as looking good. Long baths, facials, massages, any type of treatment for the body are not luxuries; they’re essentials – no matter how busy your life is.
Prioritising skin care over makeup
In France, they’re about glowing, great-looking skin, so they can have this no-makeup makeup look, and it works – the French secret is more about simplicity.
Practising casual elegance
French women are known for being spectacularly dressed in a casual yet sophisticated way with their capsule wardrobe. Put together an outfit that you feel both comfortable and confident in. Perhaps mix a casual top with a more luxe skirt. Experiment with different looks that are outside of your comfort zone.
Wearing matching lingerie
I am sure you’ve heard the rumour about French women wear matching lingerie? Whether or not it’s true, you can still apply this idea to your life to enhance your confidence. Choose your best set of matching lingerie and put it on for no particular reason. Wear it all day like a sexy little secret.
Walking everywhere
The French walk everywhere. They walk to work, to the markets, to run errands – and it’s part of their daily routine. I am not much of a workout person, but I absolutely LOVE walking and it’s no doubt my go-to exercise.
Embracing ageing gracefully
Better to look your age than look no age at all. Parisian women never try to appear to be something other than what they are – they want above all to become the best possible version of themselves… at any age.
Stop depriving myself
There’s no denying that a lot of French people have a sweet tooth (as do I), but the difference is in the way they satisfy it. One of the greatest revelations I have had recently is that when a yearning for something sugary hits me, I satiate it by eating just a small amount of something sweet – a square of chocolate, a cup of tea, a slice of peach – rather than an entire dessert or confection.
Buying my groceries locally
Parisians value quality over quantity, so supermarkets are outnumbered by speciality stores. Most Parisians shop daily for fresh local ingredients. You go to the boulangerie for bread, the fromagerie for cheese, the patisserie for dessert pastries.
Swiping on my favourite shade of lipstick
Embracing your inner French girl is as easy as applying a fresh coat of lipstick. Our idealized French woman often has beautifully pouty red lips, but you don’t have to choose red to get the same effect. Instead, apply whichever lipstick makes you feel most sensuous and wear it proudly. For bonus points, blow a kiss to a gorgeous guy that’s caught your eye.
Practising my French
Perhaps the easiest way to feel French is to simply practice it! There are numerous podcasts that can help you learn basic conversational French. Your objective doesn’t need to be to become fluent in the language. Instead, simply pick up a few phrases you can use in everyday conversation to make you feel closer to your inner French girl.
