I love taking a cooking class when travelling if possible. I celebrated my 41st birthday in Paris end of October and decided to book myself onto a French Cooking Class. As you already know, I am a lover of The French Way of Living and Paris, so after a bit of research, I came across Cook’n With Class.
Cook’n With Class has been in operating its Paris-based French cooking school since 2007 and has taught more than 30,000 students over 10,000 French recipes, and continues to share the love of French cooking today, with the help of our professional Chefs, full-time assistants, and sommeliers with two locations: Paris & Uzès, in the south of France.
The atmosphere and the ambience were very warm and welcoming, cosy and rustic and I managed to get my first cup of Earl Grey since arriving Paris.
The kitchen was stunning, very quirky – reminded me of Julia Child’s kitchen. Out of all the classes they offer, From Market to Table Cooking Class. was the most appealing to me as I’ve always loved going to the Food Market to buy seasonal produce and then come home and cook – this time it was simply best; visiting a Parisian Food Market!
Unfortunately, I missed out on going to the food market part as I woke up with a very bad headache, but I managed to make my way to the cooking class and cook!
Our instructor was Chef Patrick, he was fun and a great communicator with a wry sense of humour. He encouraged us all to take part and cook and he kept the lesson engaging. He shared his expertise on various kitchen and cooking skills and I certainly learnt a lot!
Le Menu:
Starter:
Pan-fried Scallops with wild mushrooms and creamy dijon mustard sauce. The Dijon Mustard Sauce was one of the easiest things to make, but the most flavoursome! It was definitely one of my favourites!
Main:
Roasted Quail and Pears, Red Wine Reduction, Green Peas and Potato Gratinee. I’ve never had quail before, so I was quite excited to try it. Another favourite of mine was the potato gratin – again; so simple to make but absolutely delicious!
Dessert:
Apple Tatin Tart. I love a good tart and this was just spot on. We made our own caramel – layers and layers of melted sugar – no butter, not water. It was pretty amazing I must admit. The Tart itself was absolutely divine. We made our own pastry as well – very easy to make as long as you follow the recipe.
After cooking we ate the lovely lunch we cooked paired with wine. Before the dessert, we had a cheese board with a variety of hard and soft cheeses served with crusty baguette. Patrick shared with us some history, some Parisian culture and more food talk. A wonderful way to spend a rainy afternoon in Paris.
I just had to get a selfie! Not often you are in your element! I travel to Paris 2-3 times a year, so next year is no different. I will be sure to visit Cook’n with Class again!
