Right now is the perfect time to start thinking about how you can get your garden ready for spring. If you leave it any later, you might find that you struggle to care for the garden and that it is not going to look its best by the time spring comes around. So what are some of the major things that you should be doing to create a truly luscious and beautiful garden in time for spring? Let’s take a look at some examples of what you might want to focus on.
Tidy Up Flower Beds
One of the useful things to do at this point in the year is to start tidying up the flower beds to get them ready for spring. If you do that now in the winter, you’ll be in a much better place by the time the spring comes around, so you must be doing this. It’s a simple case of edging the beds, getting rid of any weeds, and generally getting the beds to a place where they are well cared for. That is going to help a lot with making your garden a lot more beautiful.
Plant Some Bulbs
Now is also your last chance to start planting some bulbs in time for the spring. If you can plant some bulbs now, you will find that you are going to have a lot of plants coming through in the spring. Seeing them at that point in the year can mean that you are encouraged to continue tending to your garden throughout the year, so it’s a wonderful thing to do in that sense. You can of course plant whatever bulbs you like, but some bluebells in the green are particularly easy to look after, and beautiful too.
Tend To The Soil
It’s also a good time of year for tending to the soil, and this is quite a simple thing to do. Mostly, it’s just a matter of taking a fork and working some organic matter into the soil. That can be mulch or leaves or some good quality compost. As long as it’s good organic matter, it is going to be a great way to improve the soil and therefore help new plants to grow in the spring. And it’s a quick, simple job that anyone can do in a matter of minutes.
Install A Water Butt
Perhaps you want to make use of that winter and spring rain, in which case you may want to consider installing a water butt. It’s best if this is attached to a shed or some other structure with guttering, so that rain is collected and then falls into the butt. This is a great way to save water and to make your gardening greener, just as you make your garden green through proper watering.
Those are the main things you can do to create a truly luscious garden in time for the spring.
