We go to the gym to look good out of the gym. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t look sleek and stylish whilst we are there.
Let’s face it, it can be hard to find the motivation to work out. However, purchasing some new, chic gym wear that makes you feel sexy and sophisticated can surprisingly give you the motivational kick you need. Besides, we always feel good when we look good.
With the activewear fashion trend booming, workout wear isn’t hard to find. But with so much choice, it can be overwhelming to know which gym apparel to choose. Here are our secrets to create the most timeless and sophisticated gym look that will keep you looking glamorous despite the sweat.
Mix and match
Just like you would outside of the gym, avoid wearing colours or patterns that clash. This can be harder with gym apparel than normal clothes for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, we typically own far less activewear than casual daywear, thus we have less choice when it comes to mixing and matching styles.
Secondly, although you could wear a pair of jeans a couple of times before washing, this rule doesn’t apply to your gym clothes. We have to wash our activewear more frequently, meaning we can easily find ourselves in a situation with no workout clothes that match well.
To prevent this rookie fashion mistake, here are a few recommendations:
- Buy your workout clothes as outfits rather than buying pieces here and there.
- Plan your workout outfits at the start of each week.
- Buy more black, white, and neutral colours as well as solid designs, rather than patterns and bright colours, which will limit your mixing and matching opportunities.
Choose functional clothing
Activewear brands offer some great functional clothing that is focused on sports performance. If you run, cycle, or do any type of cardio or high-intensity workout such as HITT, I would strongly recommend investing in specially designed gym apparel from a reputable athleisure brand. The tried and tested moisture-wicking fabric and strategic ventilation placing that Fabletics use in their clothing regulates your body temperature, discreetly wipes up a sweat, and helps you move with ease and lightness.
Accessorize
Whilst we wouldn’t recommend wearing jewellery in your fitness classes, the addition of accessories such as headbands, gym bags, and even water bottles can greatly upgrade your look. Underwear also plays a big role in gym sophistication, as no one wants a VPL (visible panty line).
Choose the right scent
While sweat doesn’t smell nice, sweat mixed with perfume smells even worse. When your body warms up, the fragrance you sprayed pre-workout evaporates. This means it gets stronger and mixes with your body odour, creating a not so pleasant combination. Instead, opt for a sporty fragrance with a light and fresh notes, or stick with a high-quality deodorant.
As you can see, with just a few simple considerations and easy changes, you can look and feel so savvy that you’ll never want to skip a workout again.
