New data suggests 53% of people miss the social side of group fitness, Ponzu has created the perfect alternative.

As we enter yet another lockdown in England and the UK, we are challenged with making the best of the situation and to make life as enjoyable and ‘normal’ as possible. One of the latest developments and booming trends has been around the adoption of online fitness. However, 53% of people in a recent survey miss the social side of real-life group workouts and 47% note that acknowledgement from their favourite instructor makes them more likely to turn up to a class – something that can’t be catered for during pre-recorded sessions.

Forget pre-recorded fitness – we make it personal

Built for the post-COVID-19 world, Ponzu connects people with premium professionals that you talk to and fully engage with, so they can personally guide and encourage you through a range of fitness disciplines – the closest thing to a real-life class, but with all the benefits of safety and convenience that online can offer. With over 30 personal trainers and Yoga and Pilates instructors on board already, users can choose to take part in anything from Yin Yoga, Dynamic Pilates, HIIT Cardio or Strength training – providing people with real human connections, at a time when that feels so limited.

The limitations of pre-recorded fitness content

35% say they put less effort into a workout when no one can see them, while 34% admit to bailing before the end – and a significant 17% just didn’t bother to show up and workout at all. 22% have made a call or sent a text and 16% have been on social media or even gone shopping online whilst doing these types of ‘workouts’. 14% admit to having eaten a meal and 9% have even drunk alcohol while watching a one-way fitness class online. And it’s not just motivation that’s at risk; one in ten (10%) have sustained an injury during a pre-recorded workout, in the absence of a trained professional observing in real-time.

One-way workouts don’t work for everyone as there’s no social engagement to make it fun and keep you hooked. Four in ten (39%) Brits who’ve taken part in pre-recorded online workouts lose motivation and over half (53%) fear that they’re doing exercises wrong when working out in front of their TV or laptop, according to a survey from totally interactive fitness & wellbeing platform Ponzu – where there is no recorded content, just real-time, real professionals and training buddies to get fit and healthy with.

Anna ForbesCommenting, Anna Forbes, co-founder at Ponzu said: “While the pandemic has given credibility to online interactions, 1-way fitness classes simply aren’t a sustainable option for everyone. It doesn’t allow for 2-way human interaction nor creates positive social contracts between instructors and participants that’s taken for granted in the offline world – essential for the development of long-term healthy habits. As inherently social creatures, we crave real connections that simply cannot authentically be created with an on-demand recording – and that’s exactly what our platform overcomes by providing you with real-life professional training partners.”

Ponzu is based on a monthly subscription model, with a range of options to cater for every budget – and users can cancel their subscription at any point. New users can enjoy their first month for free and, if they refer a friend, both the user and friend will receive £10 worth of credits.

I was somewhat sceptical about working with a PT via video but she watches your form carefully, and can tell when you need a break or can take some more. I felt really good after the class for days!” – Nicole, client
