Being green, or being eco-friendly, is a huge task, and it’s not always clear what the best option is.
For many businesses, being green means recycling and reducing the waste you produce. Of course, there are other ways to encourage your employees to be green.
Why The Need To Go Green?
The planet isn’t in great shape at the moment, and even small things you can do have massive impacts.
Most adults spend a large amount of time at work every day, and if this time is spent in a greener way, there is a real chance that the rest of the world may benefit. Lots of businesses and offices have implemented certain green strategies to improve their surroundings, and it’s a fantastic way to inspire your employees to be green too.
What Can Be Done?
Introducing greener systems into the workplace is a great way to make a positive difference, so here are some things that you can do at your business:
Reduce Single-Use Plastics
From vending machines giving out plastic bottles to canteens packing plastic cutlery, single-use plastic is everywhere in our office buildings.
While it might not seem like a big deal, reducing single use plastic in workplaces
will save you money, as well as reduce your carbon footprint.
Reuse Products Instead Of Buying In Bulk
The same products you buy in bulk to save money are actually more expensive over time, so there’s no need for you to use them up completely.
Instead of constantly buying new products for the office, consider using those which are already available and do not need to be replaced that often.
Switch To Energy Efficient Appliances
You’ve no doubt heard that some types of light bulbs can use up to 90% less energy. It’s easy to switch these kinds of bulbs, and you can save a lot of money on your energy bill too.
Other appliances like an energy-efficient microwave or a better energy rating printer will further help to reduce your workplace’s carbon footprint.
Use Products That Have Been Recycled
Lots of products contain recycled materials, so it’s worth checking before you buy new items for your workplace. Materials like cardboard pens and recycled notepads are easy switches for anyone to get used to.
By doing this, you’re also encouraging employees to be green, so it’s a win-win situation!
Ditch The Printing
If possible, get rid of printed documents and replace them with online options that can be edited at any time by anyone on the team.
If your employees really must write by hand, consider reusable writing tablets like the ReMarkable. These devices can cut the need for single-use plastic pens and paper notepads for all employees.
Have A Bike To Work Scheme
Whether you have a large company or just a small team, encouraging employees to use their bikes to get to work is going to be a great way for them to feel better about what they’re doing for the planet.
It’s good for your company as it will save you money too because you can reduce your car parking needs!
